The Tea Files - One Aldwych

Well I definitely think it's been a while since we did a cheeky Tea Files here on Hello Miss Jordan, but luckily for you lovely readers I've got one for you right now! Last weekend I headed up to London with my two best friends for a little catch up and a spot of tea at One Aldwych. I'd never visited this hotel before but had walked past a couple of times and peered in.

The hotel is very modern, and the tea is themed around Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Needless to say, as a chocoholic I was very excited. We were promptly seated in the first floor mezzanine and given some menus.

The tea was £39 per person for the regular tea and £49 per person with a glass of champagne. Because I don't drink champagne I went for the regular and ordered up a hot chocolate!

One thing I absolutely loved was the illustrated menus, featuring the characters from the book in quirky illustrations.

My hot chocolate was served up in a teapot (which I am always a big fan of), but the chocolate itself was quite bitter, so I think it may have been on the darker side. I'm always up for something a bit sweeter!

Our first course was our savouries; which were cucumber and smoked salmon, egg mayonnaise on tomato bread, coronation chicken, a vegetable wellington and a leek, walnut and cheddar quiche.

My favourite definitely had to be the egg mayonnaise, it was absolutely delicious and I loved the rest of the snacks too! The only thing I would have liked is if the wellington and quiche had been warmer, as they arrived nearly cold. Yes, I know I'm fussy but if I wasn't then this wouldn't be a Tea Files!

The waiter did offer us additional sandwiches which is one of my main boxes to tick when it comes to an afternoon tea!

Then it was time for the sweets, which was the course I was definitely the most excited about! The display looked absolutely amazing, on a stair like wooden stand. Everything definitely looked the part and there was also so much food, so the value for money was bang on!

The sweets were a golden chocolate egg with vanilla cheesecake & mango, chocolate caramel milk, eton mess, homemade strawberry candy floss and lemon and white chocolate cake pops.

My favourites of the bunch were definitely the Eton mess (I may have had my friend's as well, oops!) and the chocolate egg. Both were seriously yummy and I loved the creativity behind the egg!

We were also given some pastries in the form of classic scones with clotted cream and jam as well as blueberry brioche and cocoa bean financiers. The scones were lovely and tasted gorgeous, but the blueberry brioche was sadly a bit stale. It's definitely one of those things that needs to be made and served on the same day, otherwise it would be have been a lovely touch.

Overall I really enjoyed the One Aldwych afternoon tea. It wasn't one of the best I've ever had, but for the price you really do get a decent amount of food that all tastes pretty yummy. I'd say it's great if you're looking for a more reasonable priced tea in central London, and it would definitely be an amazing treat for children too! If you fancy giving it a go for yourself, you can book via their website here!
