Ahhh I'm so excited to write this post! House of Fraser is a brand I've had the pleasure of working with before, so as soon as I discovered that they were on the hunt for a new Beauty Ambassador, I jumped at the chance to apply. As someone who discovered a love for beauty and makeup quite late in the day (when I was around 17) I think it's extremely important to allow people to discover their own style in their own time, and upon that discovery to allow people to express themselves through makeup. After all, a little bit of paint can make a huge difference emotionally as well as physically, and I know from experience that discovering my own style was something that made me extremely happy.
For me, choosing a beauty style icon was a no-brainer, and maybe some people reading this will automatically roll their eyes and sigh, because Audrey Hepburn is such a commonly chosen style icon, but hear me out. Audrey's beauty has always felt very personal to me and I do believe she is one of the main reasons I even wear makeup today.
Her classic look is one you all know: thick eyebrows, winged eyeliner, fluttery lashes and a nude lip. It's perfect. And what I love about it is that anybody can recreate it, whether it's for day to day makeup or for a classic evening look. Audrey is simply stunning and the epitome of class.
Isn't that lady just perfect? Another thing I find incredibly inspiring about Audrey is her humanitarian work. Having been appointed Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF, she dedicated a large portion of her life to helping children in need abroad. By using her high profile to help those in need, she showed true beauty on the inside, something I have always striven to achieve. You can have all the makeup in the world, but you could never be truly beautiful until you achieve kindness and respect for others.
With this in mind, I have emulated Audrey's beauty style throughout my life to remind myself of her inspiring work and hopefully one day I can do something as wonderful as she did.
If Audrey wasn't already inspiring enough, she really captures my heart through her role in Disney movies. As you may already know, Disney Princesses and their values have always been something I've striven to keep in my heart, with my favourite of them all being the courageous and intelligent Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Audrey Hepburn was used as the inspiration for Belle's classic look, as well as for the elegant and slender features of Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty. Upon discovering this, I only fell in love with her look even more, knowing that she was the face behind my favourite character of them all.
I can now be Audrey Hepburn AND Belle. I literally could not ask for more than that!
As I mentioned before, Audrey's look can be recreated using any number of products, so the ones I used can very much be swapped and changed!
My base consisted of the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 'Fair' and the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in 'Pink Blossom' to create a pale but soft finish.
The most important part was most obviously the brows. Using a hard angled brush, I applied the powder from the Benefit Browzings kit in 'Dark' along the top of the brow, shaping it from the top first to give a more defined and thicker look. I then filled in the remainder and drew outwards where I thought I could go a little thicker. Looking back, I think I could have gone even thicker (baby steps, Jordan, baby steps).
I used a pale pink blush in the form of Benefit's Dandelion and the Collection Eye Definer to create the signature cat flick. I didn't use the brush it came with as I find them to be extremely difficult to apply, so I used a Wing-Liner brush from Zoeva to create the outer flick, then filled in where necessary.
As lovely as it would be to say these are my natural lashes, I'm sure I wouldn't be fooling anyone! They are the Eyelure Naturalites Lashes in 101, which for me are the ultimate in perfect false lashes. Not too big, not too small, and I can apply them in seconds to give those true Audrey lashes!
Finally, I finished with my favourite nude lip: the L'Oreal Colour Riche Exclusive in 'Eva'. It's definitely one of those my-lips-but-better shades that bloggers talk about, so this nude can be anything you think suits your personal lip colour.
So, why should I be House of Fraser's new Beauty Ambassador? Well, hopefully I've shown you through my adoration of Audrey Hepburn and the Disney I threw in there. Because if it's a post without a Disney reference it's just not a post from Hello Miss Jordan is it?
If you want to go about re-creating this look, have a browse of the House of Fraser Makeup Department and see if anything takes your fancy. They do pretty much everything under the sun and you may end up hyperventilating over the amount of choice they offer like I did.
For me, beauty is deeply personal and something that I use to represent the kind of person I am and who I want to become. Let me know in the comments what you think of my Audrey Hepburn look and what beauty means to you.
