Last week I finally got to experience a day I've wanted to attend for so long...Ladies' Day at a racecourse! As somebody who's seen photos from numerous raceday events of women in huge hats eating amazing food and drinking champagne, I've always wanted to see what the day is really like for myself.
So when Newbury Racecourse got in touch and asked if I would like to attend Betfred Ladies' Day, I jumped at the chance to dress up, get my heels on and strut down to the racetrack for a fantastic day out.
My mum and dad came along for the drive and it wasn't long before we had reached the racecourse.
Although the day started pretty drearily, it soon perked up and the sun emerged through the grey clouds just as we began our afternoon tea picnic.
It was supplied by a company called Honesty who specialise in these adorable boxes full of tasty goodies!
My favourites were definitely the vegetable pasty and the lemon bundt cake! Definitely a company to consider if you're having a party or wedding, as everything is homemade using local ingredients.
Of course, it's not the races without dressing up for the occasion! I wore my graduation outfit and yes, I know this makes me a terrible fashion blogger for wearing the same outfit twice, but I love it that much!
Skirt - Coast || Blouse - Coast || Shoes - Miss Selfridge (Similar here) || Clutch - Boohoo
I knew I wanted to wear something bright and this skirt really is a statement wonder. It's so full and beautiful and I was stopped numerous times throughout the day when people complimented it! The fact that I got it in the sale definitely made it even sweeter!
I did enter Newbury Racecourse's Most Stylist Racegoer competition, but unfortunately I wasn't shortlisted.
We were kindly given a £10 voucher to bet on some horses and I was thrilled when I won the money back and more when one of my horses won! There's definitely an incredible atmosphere at the races of anticipation and joy, and you really get an adrenaline rush when you win. Don't worry though, I'm definitely not a gambler and it's always important to know how much to spend and when to stop betting.
As the races drew to a close, we headed over to the "Party in the Paddock", hosted by none other than Mr Will Young!
If you're wondering, he sounded just as wonderful in real life as he sounds on the radio AND he had confetti cannon (WINNING).
It honestly was such a fantastic day out and a real treat to get to see Will Young live at the end of it all! Don't worry, I won't be descending into a gambling addiction anytime soon, but it certainly was fun to win a bit of money along the way!
Our trip to Newbury Racecourse was kindly provided free of charge, but all opinions are, as always, my own!
