Maze Grill, Chelsea

Last week I was invited down to the Maze Grill on Royal Hospital Road in Chelsea to try out their new Chelsea Flower Fever menu that they currently have running to celebrate the Chelsea Flower Show! I've been to the original Maze restaurant, but never the Maze Grill branches, so I was excited to see what it was like. For full disclosure, our meal was gifted but all opinions are my own, as always!

I also took my dad with me as a Father's Day treat, so it was nice to spoil him for a bit too!

We arrived and were quickly seated. The restaurant is relatively small and cosy, but very nicely furnished. They even have an adorable flower arch outside the door to celebrate!

We were first brought some small loaves with butter, served warm, which were delicious.

The new set menu is also accompanied by a special cocktail menu by Fever-Tree, which features lots of gin and tonic based drinks. My dad ordered the Maze Grill Spritz - Fever-Tree lemon tonic, Martini Ambrato, elderflower cordial and grapefruit bitters. Of course, I personally don't drink gin but my dad absolutely loved it and said it was delicious, so definitely one to try for all you gin lovers!

The set menu is two courses for two people for £30, which is a pretty good deal for a central London restaurant!

It wasn't long before our starters arrived. My dad went for the chili and garlic prawn with grilled sourdough which were delicious - perfectly cooked with a really nice kick.

I went for the roasted tomato soup with basil oil and I kid you not, it was probably one of the best tomato soups I've ever had. It was raining on the day we visited, so tasted even better as it felt quite cosy.

We both ordered the same thing for main course - the sea bream with mango and cucumber. It was amazing, again perfectly cooked with a really delicious balance with the sweetness of the mango and freshness of the cucumber.

We also had a couple of sides - because of course you can't have fish without some kind of potato with it! I chose the mash potato which was incredible - super creamy and rich with little flecks of sea salt. This is a must if you're a mash fan!

We also had a side of broccoli with chili and garlic, which came in the same sauce as the starter prawns that we loved so this was fantastic too.

Dessert wasn't included with the set menu, but we both had the Eton Mess with rose peppercorn meringues. It was a really cool, unique spin on a classic and I wasn't sure if I'd like the spicyness of the pepper but it was actually lovely. They had some seriously good sounding desserts on the menu so I would definitely go back and try some of the others!

Overall, our meal was absolutely delicious and definitely worth trying out if you're in Chelsea. It's such a good deal for such high quality food as well and a great way to celebrate the flower show, even though it's not on anymore. After all, you can never have too many flowers!

I'd love to know if you've ever visited a Maze Grill branch before! x
