Aquavit, London

Last weekend I had the pleasure of dining at Aquavit in London (ad press invite); a Michelin star restaurant in the heart of St James's. I'd never heard of this restaurant before our visit and when I discovered that they serve Nordic and Scandinavian cuisine, I was excited to try a new range of dishes and flavours. I've also never eaten Nordic food, so had no idea what to expect!

I took along my dad as his birthday treat. He's a complete foodie too and also gets to taste the alcohol we get offered on my behalf. As soon as we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, despite the restaurant's large size. The decor is classic and clean and I loved their floral displays.

We were both served an array of different breads with a seaweed butter before our starters which was really delicious.

For starters we both went for the Autumn wild mushrooms. I have to be honest and say I don't think I've ever tasted mushrooms quite this good. This dish was truly outstanding, served with a delicious broth.

For mains I went for the Icelandic cod with hayselden potatoes, sea herbs, roe and smoked buerre blanc. Again, this dish was truly delicious. The cod was cooked perfectly and the combination of flavours was truly divine.

My dad had the Norwegian Halibut served with cauliflower, lingonberries and brown butter. Another fabulous dish that my dad said was one of the best plates of food he's had in a long time. High praise from him as he's very fussy!

All of this was served with a side of Rydberg potatoes, which were ultra crispy cubes and some of the best potatoes I've ever had.

Onto dessert, I had the pavlova and dad went for the apple and lingonberry tart. I'm obviously a huge dessert person and a lot of Michelin star restaurants fail to impress me with their desserts, I won't lie, but these were both absolutely delicious. The pavlova was unreal, with strawberry sorbet and fresh strawberries. It was a combination of all things I love in a dessert. I just wish I had one right now!

And of course, the service was fantastic all evening. Our sommelier Ennio was absolutely lovely and recommended a fantastic bottle of Spanish white wine for my dad. He was so lovely to chat to, so a big shout out to him!

Overall, I would highly recommend Aquavit, it was truly amazing and one of the best foodie experiences I've had in London. The Nordic dishes were absolutely divine and the dessert was just so good. If you're looking for a restaurant for an incredible meal out, I couldn't recommend them any more!

Have you ever dined at Aquavit?
